TV Character Hall of Fame

This page is dedicated to great TV characters...sometimes they may not be in great TV shows but something makes them a great character. They are unforgettable and usually very quotable.

Mrs. Emma Peel
My first inductee is one of the original kick-ass spy girls in a catsuit, Mrs. Emma Peel from The Avengers. According to her Wikipedia page, she is an 'unofficial undercover operative'. She isn't just a pretty face and a fashion icon. She is intelligent, clever, an expert in martial arts, a 'formidable fencer' and a crack shot.
Mrs. Peel rarely needed rescuing and sometimes needed to rescue her partner in fighting crime John Steed...with whom she had a very flirtaeous relationship. Mrs. Peel husband's plane had disappeared over the Amazon but he does reappear in her final episode.
Mrs. Peel is a great TV character and feminist icon. She showed girls that you can kick-ass with style.

My next inductee is DCI Gene Hunt from Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. He's sexist, racist, homophobic, xenophobic and a completely lovable old-fashioned copper. He's also an enigma...is he real or is he the figment of Sam and Alex's imagination?
